Heisman Trophy Winner Charlie Ward Gives Scouting Report on Alex Leatherwood and Jalen Hurts

Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward held court on Monday evening at the Gulf Coast Athletic Club gathering in Gulf Shores (AL). The highly decorated former Florida State star quarterback and 12-year NBA veteran spoke of his collegiate and professional career with the assembled members and guests.

BamaMag.com had a chance to sit down with the understated, soft-spoken two-sport superstar.  Charlie Ward is currently the Head Football Coach of Booker T. Washington HS (Pensacola, FL) and Community Coach and Ambassador for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Double A baseball team.

Alex Leatherwood is a Scout.com five-star class of 2017 prospect committed to Alabama and coached by Ward.  The 6-6, 315 pound lineman is ranked 18th overall and as the third best at his position and the top rated offensive tackle in the South and the state of Florida.

Ward discussed the behemoth Leatherwood and Jalen Hurts, BAMA’s dual-threat true freshman quarterback and voting criteria for selecting the Heisman Trophy winner.
