Alabama scout team players aren’t highly publicized, but are important

Scout team plays big role in Alabama football success

After each game, the Alabama football staff announces its players of the week on offense, defense, and special teams, usually between about nine and a dozen. Following the LSU game the entire defense was included.
Not publicized, but also recognized by the coaching staff for its performance in getting the team ready for Saturday are the scout team players who are standouts in the preparation process. Some of them are recognizable names, recently recruiting top prospects waiting their time. Others may make a name on special teams, as did Xavian Marks with a punt return for a touchdown against Kent State, or Derrick Gore with a blocked punt that resulted in a TD against Florida.
Running back Lawrence Erekosima will be remembered by Alabama fans at the Senior Day ceremony prior to the Auburn game, when he received a surprise visit from his mother, who had come back from military service in the Middle East.
Quite a few are walk-ons, whose entire Alabama football career is limited to the practice field or being on the sidelines.
