Alabama gymnastics on road at Arkansas and in Birmingham vs. Auburn

Alabama gymnastics has strategy for two weekend meets

When a baseball team has a doubleheader, the lineup changes are relatively few, a change in pitchers and perhaps one or more position players. Alabama’s gymnastics team doesn’t have a doubleheader this weekend in the baseball sense, but the Crimson Tide will be on the road for a pair of meets.
As a result, Coach Dana Duckworth will be juggling the lineup to accommodate two meets in three days. At the same time, the strategy should help to build depth as the nation’s fifth-ranked Bama team moves deeper into the season.’
Alabama will be in Fayetteville Friday to face No. 23 Arkansas. The Tide will move from there to Birmingham to meet No. 16 Auburn on Sunday.
“Going into this double weekend, we’re being very strategic,” Duckworth said. “Our entire week of preparation, we’ve been very conscious of reps, numbers, and landings – we’ve really monitored all that.”
The Crimson Tide’s meet against Arkansas will be in Barnhill Arena at 7:30 p.m. CST Friday and will be televised on the SEC Network. Alabama’s meet against Auburn will be held in Legacy Arena in the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center starting at 4 p.m CST Sunday. This will be the Tide’s only double weekend of the regular season.
The meet in Birmingham is the Tide’s annual Elevate the Stage meet, where the Tide and Tigers will compete on a podium. More information on the Elevate meet, including how to purchase tickets, is available at
Alabama is coming off its best score of the season at Missouri last Friday, where it posted a 197.225. The Tide’s score was boosted by a 49.600 on the balance beam, the fourth highest beam tally in school history.
Alabama returns home on Feb. 3 to take on Florida in the Crimson Tide's 13th annual Power of Pink meet. The Power of Pink initiative started under legendary Alabama Coach Sarah Patterson to help raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
