After a big junior football season, class of 2018 Mobile (Ala.) Christian defensive end prospect Andres Fox has become one of the state's hottest college football prospects. In fact, he is the only Yellowhammer State prospect to add both in-state SEC scholarship offers since helping the Leopards to the Class 3A state championship game in December.
Alabama extended the verbal offer Wednesday evening.
"I'm shocked," Fox said. "I didn't see it coming."
The news came through via UA head coach Nick Saban and defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.
"They said I have the tools to play for them," he said. "The greatest program ever, the coaches are the best."
Fox, an early three-star on Scout, was last in Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl and the current plan is to make a return trip later this month for the Crimson Tide's second junior day of the year. It is slated for February 25.
Growing up a big Alabama fan, the top junior admits each in-state offer has impacted his recruitment a bit differently than the rest.
"This one and Auburn," he said. "It's been a dream just watching them growing up and now I have the chance to play for them.
"But I'm open."
Mississippi State, also on the early offer list for Fox, is the only other planned visit for this month. Florida, Penn State, Arizona and considrable others comprise his early verbal scholarship offer list.
Fox doesn't have a timetable for trimming his list of offers or making a verbal commitment at this time.
