Adding scholarship offers is nothing fairly new to Scout300 edge prospect and Fairfield (Ohio) High School prospect Malik Vann, who holds north of 20 verbal scholarship offers despite being a high school junior.
But Saturday was a pair of firsts for the four-star. He was able to take in Tuscaloosa for the first time, as Nick Saban and company hosted a massive junior day, and he learned of a scholarship offer from Alabama in the process.
"I felt amazing, it felt surreal to be honest," he said Saturday evening. "Coach Saban offered me in his office. We talked about academics, the DL depth, and how he liked my versatility.
"He said I can play outside linebacker or defensive end."
Vann says Oklahoma, Florida State and Wisconsin have sold him on a similar plan compared to perceived favorites Michigan State and Notre Dame, but there isn't much of a position prefrence on his end in preperation for the next level.
"Doesn't matter as long as I get a shot to play," he said.
Vann now has that 'shot' to play at national power Alabama and he wasn't the only member of the family able to take in the town for a first impression.
"This campus is beautiful, my mom and brother came, too," he said. "They really enjoyed the visit all around. They surely left an impression...
"Roll Tide baby."
Stating he is 'high' on the program following Saturday, plenty of movement remains in Vann's recruitment in between now and any potential decision. He is looking to get his offer list over two dozen later this spring with additional visits, though another stop in Tuscaloosa seems likely.
"I still need to make a return trip," he said. "Maybe in the summer or late spring."
Not able to make this trip is another Fairfield junior high on the Alabama board, Jack Carman, a Scout100 offensive lineman who was very complimentary to Vann on Twitter following the news of his latest scholarship offer.
