UAB fans spend a lot of time screaming for Alabama to play the Blazers. They get their wish Tuesday, and on UAB’s home turf, Mary Bowers Field in Birmingham. The Crimson Tide will take on the Blazers at 6 p.m. CST Tuesday.
That’s the good news. That bad news is that Alabama, ranked 10th in the nation in the most recent polls, is 13-2 and UAB is 5-8. Moreover, the Tide has an all-time record of 19-0 vs. the Blazers.
Alabama is coming off a 5-0 record in its Bama Bash tournament in which junior catcher Carrigan Fain of Birmingham suburb Gardendale was MVP. Fain went 7-10 in the tournament.
Right behind her was freshman Bailey Hemphill who was 7-13 and walked 8 times. After going 4-4 in a win over Texas Tech, the next game the Red Raiders walked her in all four plate appearances.
Sydney Littlejohn went 3-0 in the tournament, all three of the senior pitcher’s games shutout performances. She has not allowed an earned run in 33 1/3 innings this year.
Following the mid-week game against the Blazers, Alabama will host another tournament, the Crimson Classic, with Jacksonville State, Drake, and Stanford participating.
