Alabama gymnastics stays sixth in national rankings

After road meet, Alabama gymnastics closes out regular season March 10

Alabama’s gymnastics regular season is nearing the end, and it will be important for the Crimson Tide to continue to post high scores in preparation for championship season – the Southeastern Conference, NCAA Regional, and – hopefully – NCAA Championship.

So far, so good. The Alabama team of Coach Dana Duckworth continues to be ranked sixth in the nation as it prepares for its two final regular season meets.

The first of those meets is Sunday against the nation’s No. 8 team, Georgia, in Athens. The Tide will finish the regular season Friday, March 10, hosting Iowa State.

Oklahoma, LSU, and Florida continue in the first three spots in the rankings, which are determined by regional qualifying score. ULCA and Utah are fourth and fifth. Behind Alabama at No. 6, Denver is seventh, Georgia eighth. Oregon State ninth, and Boise State tenth.

Alabama is ranked fourth on the floor exercise, fifth on the vault and balance beam, and sixth on the uneven bars this week.

Individually, junior Kiana Winston is No. 8 in the all-around, No. 6 on the floor exercise, and No. 11 on the balance beam. Junior Nickie Guerrero is fourth on the balance beam while senior Aja Sims is 10th on the floor exercise. Senior Katie Bailey is 15th on the vault.

Tickets for the Iowa State meet re available through the Alabama Ticket Office in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, by telephone at (205) 348-2262, and online at
