Two Alabama players are tied for the individual lead and the Crimson Tide women’s golf team shot a 2-under par 282 on Friday to take a four-shot lead after the first round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the 6,218-yard, par-71 Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Freshman Kristen Gillman and sophomore Cheyenne Knight, the 2016 Rucker Intercollegiate medalist, are among four players tied for the individual lead at 3-under par (68). Sophomore Lauren Stephenson is tied for ninth at even par. Junior Lakareber Abe is tied for 44th at 4-over par (75), and senior Mia Landegren is tied for 72nd at 7-over par (78).
Duke is in second at 2-over par (286), Arizona State is third at 4-over par (288), South Carolina is fourth at 5-over par (289), and Baylor is fifth at 7-over par (291).
Alabama will be paired with Duke and Arizona State in Saturday’s second round starting with Mia Landegren at 9:10 a.m. CT, followed by Lakareber Abe (9:20), Lauren Stephenson (9:30), Cheyenne Knight (9:40), and Kristen Gillman (9:40).
Alabama is the defending champion at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The Tide won last year’s tournament by seven shots over Virginia and also won the Rucker in 2011 and 2012.
