Alabama pitcher Alexis Osorio is SEC Softball Pitcher of Week honoree

Alexis Osorio is leading the nation in strikeouts

Pitch a perfect game and earn Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week. Pitch part of a no-hitter and have a weekend of going 3-0 without giving up a run and striking out 38 in 15 innings and it’s good enough for co-winner of the SEC pitching recognition.
Thus, for the second time this season Alabama junior pitcher Alexis Osorio has received the SEC pitching honor, but she shares it with Florida senior Melanie Gourley.
That’s still plenty good as Osorio has been recognized for the third time in her career. (The Alabama program has been honored 36 times in history.)
Osorio was called upon to pitch three times last week and delivered a 3-0 record.
On the final day of February, she earned the win in relief with 4 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts.
On Friday in Alabama’s Crimson Classic, she started against Jacksonville and was part of a combined no-hitter against Jacksonville. Madi Moore came on in relief to share the no-hitter. Osorio, who was part of a combo no-hitter earlier in the year, had 11 strikeouts in her 4 innings.
Her final appearance came Saturday against Stanford and she pitched 7 shutout innings with 18 strikeouts and allowing just 1 hit. The 18 strikeouts is the second-highest total in a single game in program history, trailing only the 19 she threw earlier this season in the perfect game against Coastal Carolina. For her efforts this past weekend, she was named the Crimson Classic MVP.
Osorio has an NCAA-leading 122 strikeouts, averaging 2.09 per inning with a 7:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. She also leads the SEC in opposing batting average (.085) and is third in hits allowed (16) and fourth in wins (9).
Osorio and the Crimson Tide host back-to-back midweek matchups, welcoming Loyola-Chicago (14-0) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CST and Valparaiso (6-2) on Wednesday at 6.
