Recruit the nation’s No. 5 class and prepare to enjoy time watching your future players in all-star games.
Alabama Coach Avery Johnson and his staff did just that, sign the nation’s No. 5 recruiting class, and all-star business begins this week. Three Crimson Tide signees will participate in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic in Montgomery Friday. Alex Reese, 6-9 forward, of Pelham and Herb Jones, 6-7 guard/forward of Greensboro Hale County will play for Alabama; and 6-10 center Galin Smith of Clinton, Miss., will suit up for Mississippi.
The trio, along with guards Collin Sexton of Pebblebrook, Ga., and John Petty of Huntsville Mae Jemison, make up Bama’s signing class, which was ranked fifth in the nation by Scout.com.
Petty, who is the reigning Alabama Mr. Basketball and will play in this summer’s Jordan Brand Classic All-Star contest in mid-April, was selected but opted not to play in this week’s game. Meanwhile, Sexton is set to play in the McDonald’s All-American game on March 29, becoming just the 11th Alabama signee to earn a spot on the prestigious roster.
Friday night’s contest will tip off at approximately 7 p.m. CDT at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on the campus of Alabama State University following the girls’ game that begins at 5 p.m.
