Former Alabama Golfer Keeps Rolling on Tour

Veteran golfer Steve Lowery finished the first round of the 2017 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic tied for 57th with a score of 74 (+2). The 79-player PGA Champions Tour event is being held at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Saucier, MS.

Lowery started the day slowly on the back nine with five bogeys, three consecutively (holes 10, 11, 12, 16, 18) for a 41 (+5) but rallied on the front nine with three birdies (holes 1, 3, 6) for a 33 (-3) to complete the round.  The former Alabama golfer is competing for the seventh year in a row at the Magnolia State course.  His best finish at the MGRC was tying for seventh in 2011.  Lowery earned a total $128,160 in the previous six.  

He has won $1.8 plus million (129 events) since joining the PGA Champions Tour in 2010.  Lowery earned $15 plus million (601 events) on the PGA Tour between 1983 and 2015. He pocketed $126,336 from the WEB.COM Tour (29 events, 1990-92).
