After being held out last week with a sore arm, Alabama junior right-hander Jake Walters will be back as the first game starter when the Crimson Tide hosts Texas A&M in a three-game Southeastern Conference series beginning at 6 p.m. CDT Thursday (today). Bama and the Aggies will continue with games at 6 Friday and 2 Saturxday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Walters missed last week’s SEC series at Ole Miss as Alabama was swept by the Rebels.
Bama broke its five-game losing streak with a midweek 6-4 win over UAB Tuesday.
To say that Al;abama is struggling is an understatement. The Tide has the SEC’s worst record at 2-10 in league games. Bama is 14-19 overall, one of just two SEC teams with an overall losing record (Georgia 15-19). Texas A&M is 5-7 in the conference and 23-11 overall. The Aggies started the season 0-4 in the league, but the last two weekends A&M has won the series against No. 6 LSU and No. 11 Auburn.
The first game will have Alabama sending Walters against A&M’s junior Brigham Hill. The Friday matchup will have the Tide’s Dylan Duarte against Corbin Martin. The Saturday windup has Nick Eicholtz going for Bama, Stephen Kolek for the Aggies.
Alabama and A&M have played only 15 times previously in baseball. The Aggies have a 9-6 advantage in the series, although the Tide is 3-2 in Tuscaloosa.
