The Alabama head coach lost his own father at the age of 22. Over 4,000 at-risk youth have been served by chapters in Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas. The Mobile faith-based outreach program established the initial chapter during the summer of 2001.
“A Night with Nick Saban” was emceed by Dan Brennan, local TV and media personality. Brad Threadgill gave a rousing solo trumpet rendition of the National Anthem Former Alabama quarterback Jacob Coker and former Auburn wide receiver/tight end Lawyer Tillman were honored guests at the dais. Former Congressman, Jo Bonner, Team Focus Board President, Greg Crance, and alumni Thomas Kidd, Ryan Garofalo, Mario Butler and Tyler New, member Troy Young (bound for Arizona to play football), Mother, Bobbi Kidd, Owner of Spectronics, Inc., Patrick Tolbert, and Susan Hightower (wife of State Senator Bill Hightower) were seated at the head table as well.
Nick Saban, a participant for the tenth consecutive year at the function, was recognized as the 2017 Champion of Life Honoree. He met with media members prior to the banquet with 700 plus people in attendance. Among the subjects broached included Team Focus, the 2017 NFL Draft, local Daphne HS (AL) product, linebacker Ryan Anderson, managing the current quarterback competition, new Tide Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll, injury status of sophomore cornerback Aaron Robinson and senior defensive end Da'Shawn Hand.
