Alabama lands Scout 300 defensive lineman Stephon Wynn

Alabama kicked off its defensive line haul in the class of 2018 with the commitment of four-star IMG Academy standout Stephon Wynn.

It doesn't make up for a national title loss but Alabama picked up a Clemson legacy prospect on Saturday when four-star defensive lineman Stephon Wynn selected the Crimson Tide during a ceremony at the Anderson Rec Center in his native Anderson, South Carolina.

The Tigers weren't an official finalist, with Georgia and South Carolina also having hats on the table for the 6-foot-4, 254-pound prospect, considered the No. 23 defensive tackle projection in the class of 2018 by Scout.

"Alabama is Alabama, it's one of the biggest programs in the country," he said this spring. "They have an amazing football team, amazing football coaches. I took a visit over the summer, I love the campus, it's super nice, it's super big, it just feels like it's a football town. Everybody loves their football in Alabama."

Wynn, who is slated to play in the Under Armour All-America Game, joins fellow Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy standout and 2019 four-star Trey Sanders on the overall Alabama commitment list while sitting as commitment No. 6 in Nick Saban's class of 2018.

The former Anderson (S.C.) T.L. Hanna standout is the first interior defensive line projection to pledge to the program in the class and vaults Alabama to 38th in the Scout team recruiting rankings. The ranking sat as low as 55 in early June.
