Intra-squad game set

TUSCALOOSA -- Three fan friendly events will be hosted by the University of Alabama men's basketball team in the next two weeks beginning with this weekend's Crimson and White intra squad game.

The game is Saturday at 6 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. No admission is being charged as it is free to the public.

Head coach Mark Gottfried and the Crimson Tide coaches will split the squad into two teams for the full-scale scrimmage giving fans their first major look at the future of Alabama basketball in its five freshmen who join the ten returning veterans which include 2003 Freshman All-Southeastern Conference forward Kennedy Winston.

Alabama's talented freshman class includes 6-11 forward Jamareo Davidson who averaged 26 points and 10 rebounds at Atlanta's Wheeler High School; 6-11 center Shawn Taylor who averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks at Georgia's Perry High School; 6-8 forward Akini Adkins who averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks a game his senior season at Tallahassee's Leon High School.

At guard, 6-1 LaKory Daniels of Troy's Charles Henderson High School was a 2003 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star with his UA freshman teammate, 6-5 guard Justin Jonus. Daniels averaged 26.5 points and 4.0 rebounds a game his senior season while Jonus averaged 23.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists.

On Tuesday, November 4, the Tuscaloosa Tip-Off Club will host its annual preseason team dinner. For $10, payable at the door, fans get dinner and a chance to sit in on Alabama's afternoon practice session and mingle with the players and coaches afterwards.

Gottfried will introduce the players and his coaching staff and talk to fans about the upcoming season at this special event. Practice will start at 3:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

And finally, Alabama will play an exhibition game against a team sponsored by Global Sports on Saturday, November 8. That event will be the final official warm-up before Alabama's November 14 season opener against Pittsburgh in Madison Square Garden in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

The Global Sports game will tip at 6 p.m. Admission is $5. The ticket is included in the season ticket package for season ticket holders.
