Junior Danny Martz got the first start of his career at right guard as Dennis Alexander missed the game with a turned ankle. Also as expected, Atlas Herrion started at left tackle in place of Wesley Britt, who is out for the year with a broken leg. Both went the distance for Alabama.
There were also some new faces on special teams with Alex Fox holding on placekicks and 5-4 Brandon Brooks taking over punt return duty. (Brooks was also deep on State's only kickoff, but the kick was deep into the end zone and not returned.)
Two other Tide players saw action for the first time this season, including Bryan Kilpatrick on special teams and Jonathan Brunson at defensive end.
Back-up quarterback Spencer Pennington played for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury at Georgia on October 4.
Sometimes players are used at more than one position, such as Tim Castille starting the game at fullback but also seeing some playing time at tailback. Those players are listed only at primary positions.
Bama used 25 on offense, 26 on defense, and 9 just on special teams. Here are those who played with starters listed first. The number in parenthesis is the number of plays. If there are two numbers, the second is the number of plays on special teams.
