Garth named Freshman All-American

Redshirt freshman Juwan Garth, a parttime starter and principal reserve at weakside linebacker for Alabama in 2003, has been named a Freshman All-American.

University of Alabama freshman linebacker Juwan Garth was honored with a selection to the Sporting News 2003 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, the national publication released Friday.

Garth recorded 62 tackles in 2003, including two sacks. He also added three pass break-ups, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Garth's 62 stops ranks seventh on the Crimson Tide squad and are the most for a freshman on the team. His tackle total also ranks third in the SEC among freshman.

The Decatur, Alabama native scored a touchdown against Georgia this season when he scooped up a fumble and ran ten yards on a Georgia punt attempt.
