Tide's Hot HandThe Crimson Tide is led by junior guard Earnest Shelton who is averaging 16.8 points a game and was named the Southeastern Conference's Player of the Week on December 8. The Memphis native is playing the best ball of his career as he's scored 22 or more points in three of Alabama's six games, including 28 against Southeastern Louisiana on November 25th.
In his last two official games, Shelton scored 22 against Charlotte and 23 against Austin Peay, and, this past Saturday night, though it did not count toward his official stats, he had 20 points and 11 rebounds in Alabama's exhibition game against Athletes in Action.
Next UpThe Chattanooga game will be Alabama's last home appearance before Christmas. It follows the Chattanooga game with a trip to the Las Vegas Showdown where it will play Oregon on December 20 in a double header that will include Auburn playing UNLV in the second game. The holidays will find Alabama hosting Mercer on December 27 at 6 p.m. CT and Wisconsin on December 30 at 8 p.m.

Chattanooga AD Has UA TiesAlthough he is back working in the hometown where he grew up, Chattanooga's Director of Athletics is well-known among the Crimson Tide faithful. Steve Sloan is a former UA quarterback who played football for the Tide, lettering in 1963-64-65 who later became Alabama's Director of Athletics.
Lebo Has Coached In Coleman Coliseum BeforeChattanooga coach Jeff Lebo has coached a team from the opposite bench from Mark Gottfried before at Alabama's Coleman Coliseum, but it wasn't as Chattanooga's head coach. This is Lebo's second season at Chattanooga, a team that played Alabama in Tuscaloosa during the 2002 season, a year before Lebo took over the program.
Lebo was the head coach at Tennessee Tech for four seasons, from 1998 to April of 2002. Gottfried's Alabama team played host to Lebo and Tennessee Tech during the 2000 season. Alabama won the game 91-72.
Though their tenures did not overlap, Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried and Lebo share a history as Ohio Valley Conference head coaches. Gottfried was head coach at Murray State of the OVC for three seasons, 1996, 1997 and 1998 before becoming Alabama's head coach. Tennessee Tech, where Lebo coached, is also in the OVC.
Tide and Mocs Have Near Identical RecordsAlabama comes into Tuesday night's game against Chattanooga with a 4-2 overall record which includes wins against Louisiana Tech, Southeastern Louisiana, Charlotte and Austin Peay and losses to nationally ranked Pittsburgh and to Providence, a team that's been receiving national rankings votes.
Chattanooga brings a 5-2 record into the game with wins against Oral Roberts, Tennessee Wesleyan, Emmanuel College, Tennessee State and King College. Its losses are to top 10 ranked Kansas in the season opener and at Liberty. The Mocs played Kansas to a 14 point game.
Scoring Averages Differ In Two OpponentsThe Crimson Tide comes into Tuesday night's game with a 71.5 scoring average after six games. Alabama's scoring high this season was 83 points against Southeastern Louisiana.
Chattanooga brings a 94.9 scoring average after seven games. It scored a season high 125 at Emmanuel College and 124 against Tennessee Wesleyan and had two more 90-plus points games, with 96 this past Saturday afternoon against King College and 93 at Tennessee State.
Oregon and Las Vegas Showdown Cap the WeekFollowing the Chattanooga game, the Crimson Tide will head to Las Vegas, Nevada, for its next test. Alabama plays in the Las Vegas Showdown, a doubleheader hosted by UNLV, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and ESPN Regional Television. This is the eighth annual event.
Alabama opens the event against PAC 10 tournament defending champions Oregon at 7 p.m. PT/9 p.m. CT. Auburn will play UNLV in Game 2 which will begin around 9:30 PT/11:30 CT.
The games are being played at the Thomas Mack Center on the campus of UNLV. ESPN2 will televise the Alabama-Oregon game. ESPN will televise the Auburn-UNLV game.
Pettway Among Bama's Best All-Time 3-Point ShootersThe tiniest Tider is among the mightiest all-time at Alabama when it comes to 3-point shooting percentages. Six-foot senior guard Antoine Pettway came into the season ranking 3rd all-time in 3-point field goal percentage at .406% and currently ranks 3rd at .402%.
Only Mark Gottfried (‘85-'87, .485) and Alvin Lee (‘88-'89, .473) rank ahead of Pettway on the Tide list.
