Bama downs Golden Hurricane, 4-0

TUSCALOOSA, AL -- The sixth-ranked University of Alabama softball team (24-3) jumped on top early and never looked back as Erin Wright tied her season high in strikeouts en route to a 4-0 shutout of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (21-9).

Wright (10-1) finished the evening with 11 strikeouts, the fourth time this season she has recorded a double-digit strikeout performance. She also threw her team-high and career tying fifth shutout of the season. It was the team's 12th shutout of the season which is as many as they had in their College World Series season last year.

The Bama offense came out firing in the bottom of the first inning. Ashley Courtney led off and was hit by a pitch. She stole second and came around to score on a single through the right side by Jackie McClain staking the Tide to a 1-0 lead.

With Wright's performance, it was all Alabama would need but they provided her with three insurance runs in the fourth inning.

McClain led off and doubled down the right field line. Emily Currie came on to pinch run for McClain and took third on a Stephanie VanBrakle single. Capper Reed hit a grounder to shortstop that was booted allowing Currie to score and putting runners on first and second for Alabama. Dominique Accetturo grounded out to the left side advancing the runners who both came in to score on a Jackie Wilkins single to left field for the final 4-0 score.

VanBrakle's single in the inning extended her career-high hitting streak to eight games.

Bama will be in action on Wednesday evening with a 6:30 p.m. match-up with the Alabama State Hornets.
