Battle For Alabama Lineman

Last December, Georgia and LSU were battling for the Southeastern Conference footballl championship. This summer the Bulldogs and Fighting Tigers have joined a long list of football elite seeking an Alabama high school defensive lineman.

Wes Brown, 6-4, 252, of Athens High School said, "I have received new offers from Georgia and LSU. They both offered me about two weeks ago. Coach Saban (LSU Head Coach Nick Saban) came by the school and offered me the scholarship."

Brown, who runs a 4.9 40-yard dash and is considered one of the top prospects in the South, now holds nine offers. They have come from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, Georgia, and LSU.

Brown is truly excited about the recent offers from Georgia and LSU. "It's huge," Brown said. "I mean, it's just a dream come true. Two top notch SEC schools have offered me. It doesn't get much better than this."

Brown is not ready to name a leader. "I'm going to wait until the summer when I get a chance to meet with some of the coaches," he said. "I want to learn about the different schools. Right now, I'm considering Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Georgia."

Camps are a priority and Brown said, "I'm going to Alabama, Vanderbilt, Georgia, LSU and Auburn. I'm still trying to find a date I can go to the Tennessee camp."

This spring, Athens High School was host to several coaches. Brown said that among head coaches dropping by the school were Tommy Tuberville of Auburn, Sylvester Croom of Mississippi State, and Saban. Assistant coaches came from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Memphis, and Nebraska.
