South Hot 100 Athlete Checks out the Tide

Anthony Johnson of Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi took an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa to attend the Alabama/Southern Miss game. Johnson came away impressed with the Crimson Tide.

"I went to the Alabama/Southern Miss game this past weekend. Alabama is pretty nice. I talked to all the coaches. I got to see the new weight room and the new indoor facilities. They were very nice. I was very impressed and it was just all real nice. I was able to speak with all the coaches. Coach Sparky Woods is my recruiting coach. He is a really good coach," said Anthony Johnson.

Johnson is a member of the South Hot 100, and he has plans to attend a few more college games.

"I am going to try and go to the Southern Miss Homecoming game.  Right now, I don't know where else I am going to go. I am in the process of looking at a few other games."

"I am probably going to set my (official) visits up after the season. I know I am going to go to LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. I don't know of the other two schools I will visit yet," Johnson added.

Johnson knows the reasons for visiting his first three schools of choice.

LSU: "I have always liked LSU and have wanted to play there."

Auburn: "I think I would look really good in blue and white."

Alabama: "I really like the campus and the coaching staff. I really like how they come outside and do warm- ups before the game. The facilities are really nice."

Johnson recently learned of his official offer from the Tide.

"Alabama has officially given me a scholarship. The letter had been in my coach's office since September 8. I just got it last week. I now have offers from Alabama, Southern Miss, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Memphis," said Johnson.

Several coaches are staying in touch.

"I talk to Coach Hobby (Ole Miss), Coach Johnson (Southern Miss), and Coach Woods (Alabama), every week. Auburn calls me every now and then. Coach Croom (Mississippi State) has also called me."

Provine High School is undefeated, but is not ranked.

"The season is going pretty good. We are 8-0. We are not ranked yet. I don't really know why, but we are just going to keep winning. We are hoping to have home field advantage in th playoffs. I have scored 15 touchdowns and intercepted six passes this year. In our game last week, I had a blocked punt for a touchdown and an interception for a touchdown," said Johnson.

This Friday, Provine will host Indianola Gentry.
