SEC Bowls photo report

Auburn was poor; Georgia only average and Arkansas played tough but still lost. However, Alabama, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida all won their games, pushing the Southeastern Conference's bowl record to 5-3 this season.

Ole Miss finished the season at 7-4, obviously bowl eligible. But in large part because they padded their schedule with patsy teams like Murray State, the Rebels were snubbed when it came time to pass out bowl bids--much to the chagrin of Ole Miss fans.

In the second bowl game played by an SEC squad, Georgia turned in a rather lackluster performance in losing to Boston College of the Big East, 20-16. The Bulldog players were candid about their feelings at missing out on a more prestigious bowl, and their disappointment likely showed versus Boston College.

An inept Auburn offense was unable to mount any kind of attack against an NFL-caliber Tar Heel defensive line, and North Carolina ran away with a 16-10 victory.

Gamecock Head Coach Lou Holtz got even grayer in the fourth quarter, as he watched Ohio State mount a furious comeback. But South Carolina kicked a game-ending and game-winning field goal, to take a second straight bowl win over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Arkansas squad was game, but Oklahoma's lightning-fast defense prevented the Razorbacks from doing anything offensively. And the Sooners took a 10-3 victory that was not as close as the score.

Give credit where credit is due. Tennessee turned in a dominating performance, whipping Michigan soundly to the tune of 45-17.

With Josh Reed and the LSU passing attack having another field day, Illinois joined a long line of teams this season unable to contain the explosive Bengal Tiger offense. LSU won going away, 47-34.

The clock finally sounded midnight for the Cinderella Maryland squad, as an extremely impressive Florida offense scored seemingly at will on the way to a 56-23 win over the ACC champs.
