RECRUITING 2002: RB Jimtavis Walker Update

The running back position has been a top priority for the Alabama coaching staff as they assemble the Class of 2002. Kenneth Darby has already given his commitment to the Crimson Tide. Hershel Dennis, Jimtavis Walker, and Deshawn Wynn are still possibilities to varying degrees. Walker visited this weekend and his visit has left the good guys in much better standing. Will it be enough?

"I had a very good visit to Alabama," said Walker. "I will visit Florida this weekend and go from there. It's between Alabama and Florida now."

Walker was committed to the Florida Gators but the resignation of Steve Spurrier re-opened his recruitment. Alabama was the beneficiary of the change when Walker decided to make an official visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend. In fact, Walker now feels good about the coaches, players, and a former friend from his hometown.

"I met with the coaching staff and coach (Dennis Franchione) Fran is a straight up guy," said Walker. "Coach (Lee) Fobbs and coach (Stan) Eggen are the same way. I like the players a lot, too. Jason Rawls is from my hometown and it's important for me to know somebody. I also like the way Alabama has stuck with Jason through his injuries."

Walker is scheduled to visit Florida this weekend (1/18). He expects to reach a decision after his visit to Gainesville but the Tide is now clearly in the picture.

Crimson Ticket Extra: Walker is being recruited by Assistant coach Stan Eggen and he was hosted by Jason Rawls on his official visit.
