Tide Adds Another Big DB

Michael Ricks, 6-2, 185 pounds, defensive back for R.A. Hubbard High School-Courtland, Alabama, has announced his decision to play for the Crimson Tide.

Michael Ricks knows why he chose the Tide.

"I have always grown up watching Alabama. I have always been a big fan. It has always been a dream for me to play at Alabama. They have a great recruiting class that is going to help pave the way for Alabama to win the SEC Championship," said Ricks.

The Alabama coaching staff impressed the star athlete and Coach Ball is an added bonus.

"Alabama has a great coaching staff. I have talked to Coach Ball and Coach Shula a lot. I really like both of them a lot. Coach Ball is really cool. I am excited about playing for him next season. They want me to come in and play corner back."

Ricks believes the Alabama defense is going to be even stronger next season, and they will make a strong run at a championship.

"I think the future for Alabama is going to be great. We should be playing in the SEC championship next year," replied Ricks.

R.A. Hubbard (14-1) fell one game short of winning the state championship, Friday afternoon.

"It was the best season I had all of my life. I had a lot of interceptions during the year that helped us get to the state championship. We could not capitalize on Friday."

For the year, Ricks had 1,000 yards rushing and 750 yards receiving. His defensive stats included 75 tackles, and 10 interceptions.

Though coming from a 1A school, Ricks believes he can bring a lot to the next level.

"I am going to bring a lot of aggression. I'm going to hit, and I am going to make a lot of interceptions when going one-on-one. The SEC better look out."

From one sport to another, Ricks will start basketball practice this week.

"I am playing basketball now, but I am still working out. I weight about 185 and I want to get to 210 before I go to college."
