Brandon Fanney, 6-5, 260, was one of the top defensive players at Hargrave Military Academy this year. Fanney committed to the University of Alabama in 2004 and is spending a year at Hargrave. Fanney will become a part of the class of 2005 and looks forward to moving to Tuscaloosa.

"This past year went really good. My grades were really good, and I did good on the football field. I started every game. I don't know how many tackles I had, but I did have eight sacks," said Brandon Fanney.

This fall, Fanney feels he learned a lot as a football player and is ready to get to Alabama.

"Coach Motley has taught me a lot. I have learned some new moves. I have learned how to get the offensive lineman's hands off of me quicker. I really want to get bigger, faster, and stronger before I get to Alabama. I am so excited about getting down there, and I hope I will be able to get in the rotation next year."

Fanney kept up with the Tide all season and is anxious to get to Tuscaloosa.

"I just can't wait to get there. I am trying to finish my time up at Hargrave. I am really hoping to get down there in June. I watched them all year long. They did really good. If they didn't have those key injuries, I know they would be in a BCS bowl game. The defense really surprised me. I can't wait to be a part of it next year," said Fanney.

One coach has stayed in close contact with Fanney during his time at Hargrave.

"I talk to Coach Randolph every week. He is one of the main reasons I chose Alabama. I feel real comfortable around him. I am really happy he is my position coach, and I can't wait to play for him next year."

Fanney's relationship with '04 Tide signee Lorenzo Washington has blossomed. They have spent the past semester at Hargrave, and the two could become ferocious defensive linemen for the Tide.

"Lorenzo and I are like brothers now. We tell each other when we mess up, and we tell each other good job. We have become really close, this past year. We are going to be roommates at Alabama."

This fall one player the Alabama coaching staff spotted at Hargrave was defensive back Lionel Mitchell. Mitchell is already a part of the Alabama football team. Fanney thinks the Tide picked up a great player.

"Coach Randolph told Lorenzo and me they were going to offer Lionel (Mitchell), and they really wanted him. As soon as he told us that, we started recruiting him. He did really good for us this year. He is not scared to come up and make a big hit. He is great coming up to the ball and he is a great cover guy. I am looking forward to playing with him again," replied Fanney.

Fanney is excited about the future of Alabama football. He is going to bring a lot to the team.

"I know the future is bright. If nobody slacks off and promises to dedicate themselves to working hard, then we are going to be a great football team for the next several years. I am going to come and practice hard. You get as much as you work and I am coming to work very hard."

Brandon Fanney and Lorenzo Washington plan to take official visits to Alabama, January 14.
