Mississippi QB Chooses Bama

The first public verbal commitment to emerge after Alabama's big weekend of official visits came Monday afternoon.

Jimmy Johns, a quarterback/outside linebacker from Brookhaven, Miss. gave his verbal commitment to the Alabama coaching staff before leaving Tuscaloosa on Sunday.

"I committed yesterday before I left Tuscaloosa," Johns said. He added that he chose to go with Alabama because he "really liked it over there and had so much fun."

"I'm 'Roll Tide!' all the way," Johns said. "I'm not taking any more visits."

The 6-2, 223-pound Mr. Football for the state of Mississippi is a three-star prospect by Scout.com, and was considered a long shot for the Tide entering the visit weekend. Mississippi State was the favorite for Johns signature.

Johns is the 25th verbal commitment in the current recruiting class. Alabama is expected to sign between 28-30 prospects in the 2005 class.
