In Depth with Alabama Commitment

Since Alabama's biggest recruiting weekend, two players that were in Tuscaloosa have made their commitment public to the Crimson Tide. Jimmy Johns, 6-2, 225, from Brookhaven High School, Mississippi, was the first to go public, after an incredible weekend spent at Alabama.

"I chose Alabama because I felt the Tide's offense fits me really good. I really like the coaches and players. I love the facilities," said Jimmy Johns.

When asked what stood out the most about the University Alabama, Johns replied, "The facilities. They were just amazing. The fans also. When we went to the basketball game, they were all cheering for us, like we were already there."

Before the official visit to Alabama, Johns was considered a heavy favorite to Mississippi State. "I never thought about committing to Alabama, until this weekend. I called the coaches at Mississippi State, and told them I was going to Alabama. I have been to both places. I felt so much more at home at Alabama," said Johns.

One of the main reasons Johns made a commitment to the Tide was the Alabama coaching staff.

"I really like Coach Shula. He was one of the main reasons why I committed to Alabama. After I finished talking with him for a while, that really helped me go ahead and make my commitment. He is just really nice and honest. I like Coach Randolph too. I really like his personality. Coach Wyatt, Coach Radar, Coach Kines, and Coach Ball are all great guys. I really like all of them a lot."

Johns was named Mr.Football in the state of Mississippi for 2004, and is ready to bring all of his talents to Alabama.

"The Alabama coaches have told me I will be playing quarterback. I feel like I will bring a lot of mobility. During my senior season, I passed for over 2,400 yards and rushed for over 1,400 yards."

The three star quarterback still would like to improve one main thing before he gets to Tuscaloosa.

"You can never be good enough with your accuracy. That is the main thing I would like to improve."

Johns was able to hang out with several of his future teammates, including players in his recruiting class.

"My player host was Juwan Garth. He was real cool. I like him a lot. I also got to hang out with Brodie (Croyle), Roman (Harper), Freddie Roach, and a lot of other players. I really liked hanging out with Chris Rogers, Chris Keys, Ali Sharrief, Cory Reamer, and Colin Peek."

With his recruitment now over, Johns is excited about getting to Tuscaloosa.

"I will be able to come this summer. I am going to probably come in June, and start taking classes. I am fully qualified with a 21 on my ACT. I am not going to take anymore visits. I am 100% committed to Alabama, and I can't wait to get there," said Johns.
