"I did not commit to Virginia Tech," said defensive tackle Jimmy Williams. "It was pretty much the same at Virginia Tech as it was at Alabama. I'm going to think about it and then make my decision after I've had more time to sort it all out. It's between Alabama and Virginia Tech. I'm going to talk to my mother and listen to my instincts."
Williams has stated that he would choose Alabama, in part, because of the close proximity to his family in Memphis, Tennessee if all things were equal. It appears that he is well aware of the length of the drive his family will endure with both choices.
Williams remains a top recruiting target for the Tide.
"It's a little over three hours to Tuscaloosa and almost nine hours to Blacksburg from Memphis," said Williams. "I have to consider that."
Williams, a 6-foot-3, 304-pounder from Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California, is a top priority for the Tide staff. Defensive tackle is a huge need for the 2002 season.
Crimson Ticket Extra: It was believed that Alabama may have had an advantage in the acceptance of a couple of courses. However, it appears the course acceptance will be the same at both schools according to information Williams received on his visit to Virginia Tech.
