Alabama LB Discusses Favorites

Blount High's James Collins, one of the top linebackers in the state of Alabama for 2006, was in Tuscaloosa for Alabama's A-Day game on March 19. The 6-0, 230 pounder recorded 79 tackles and 3 sacks in 2004 despite missing the last 3 games due to injury.

"I went to Alabama's A-Day game. It was very nice. I was not able to speak with the coaches though," James Collins said.

When asked about the Tide's top ranked defense, Collins replied, "Oh man, they have a very nice defense. Everyone out there is so talented."

"They are in my top four," Collins said about the Tide. "I really like them a lot. I have toured the facilities and the campus before I went to A-Day. I like everything about it. I would say my top schools right now are Alabama, Miami, Florida State and Florida. Florida and Florida State are probably my top two."

Alabama is not the only place the Blount linebacker has been in past weeks.

"I went to LSU for their Junior Day. I enjoyed it a lot. I was able to speak with all of the coaches. They said how I would fit in with their defense. I was able to tour the facilities, and they were very nice," said Collins.

Collins is holding two offers and many more are expected.

"I have offers from LSU and Auburn. Florida said they were going to offer, but I have not received anything in writing."

Collins transferred to Vigor High School from Pensacola High School, and now is playing at Blount. Collins has stayed in close contact with one of his former teammates, and hopes the two will re-unite in college.

"I transferred from Pensacola High School a few years ago to Vigor High School. They re-zoned everything, and now I am playing at Blount. I am very close friends with LaBrandon Glover from Pensacola High School. We stay in touch. We really hope to play at the same school. I know he is looking at Alabama and Mississippi State. If he were to commit somewhere, and if I had an offer from the same school, then I would probably commit too. I would love to go somewhere I would know someone heading there with me. I grew up with LaBrandon (Glover) and it would be awesome to play with him again," said Collins.

Collins plans to attend Mississippi State's spring game April 12 and this summer he plans on attending camps at Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and LSU.
