More Offers for Alabama WR

Tim Hawthorne, from Homewood High School, continues to pull in SEC offers. After a fine performance at the combine, the elite wide out received two new offers.

"I got two new offers. I received an offer from Ole Miss Monday, and I received an offer from South Carolina tonight. I am now up to ten total offers," Tim Hawthorne said.

Last Sunday, Hawthorne was in Starkville for the combine. The Ole Miss coaches caught wind of his performance and offered a scholarship the following day. "Coach Riffen, my recruiting coach, called me Monday night. He said they had an offer for me. I was able to speak with Coach Orgeron. They both said they needed some wide receivers. He sounds like a good coach, and a coach who knows what he wants. The offer was a surprise to me because I didn't know they were interested."

Sunday night, Hawthorne was delighted to hear from South Carolina. They called to extend a scholarship offer, and inform the receiver about the high octane offense where he could excel.

"South Carolina offered me today. Coach Cooper came by my school Thursday, while I was lifting weights. He called today. He said Coach Spurrier really liked everything about me. He said I should be receiving the offer in the mail either Monday or Tuesday. Coach Cooper said they are going to throw the ball everywhere. I could have the opportunity to catch the ball between five to ten times every game. That is a huge plus for them. Coach Spurrier's resume speaks for itself. I am going to try to attend a mini camp up there this summer," Hawthorne said.

It's apparent Hawthorne would like to stay in the Southeastern conference, but he is not ready to name a leader.

"The SEC is the best conference in college football. I am going to strongly consider any school in the SEC. I don't have any favorites right now. I have ten offers, and I would have to say those offers are my top ten schools. Everyone is equal. I don't know if I will stay in-state or go out-of-state."

A few weeks remain before summer camps begin, and Hawthorne is trying to finalize his summer schedule.

"It's going to be a busy summer. I can't say definitely which schools I will attend camps, but I do know I will go to mini-camps at Alabama and Auburn."

Several college coaches are making their rounds to Homewood High School. This week, some of the top coaches in the country are expected to attend practice.

"This past week, we had coaches from South Carolina, Marshall, and Memphis. We are supposed to have Coach Fulmer (Tennessee) on Monday, Coach Urban Meyer (Florida) on Tuesday, Coach Eason (Georgia) on Wednesday, and Coach Petrino (Louisville) on Friday. There are going to be a lot of coaches at practice all week long. We will have a spring game Thursday night at John Carroll," he said.

When asked about his experience with the combine, Hawthorne replied "It was great. It was great exposure for me, and the combine was well organized. Mississippi State had nice campus, and a nice environment. If there were ten more combines, I would attend all of them. It was the best ever, and I would give it two thumbs up," said Hawthorne.
