Alabama Picks up Linebacker Commitment

Charlie Higgenbotham, a linebacker from Mountain Brook High School, has committed to the University of Alabama.

Tuesday evening, the Alabama coaching staff landed their second verbal high school commitment. Linebacker, Charlie Higgenbotham, 6-0, 215, from Mountain Brook High School informed Coach Charlie Harbison he was ready to make his pledge to the Crimson Tide.

"Charlie (Higgenbotham) called Coach Cheese (Harbison) last night and told him he was ready to commit. Coach Cheese seemed thrilled, and told him how happy he was. Charlie still has not talked to Coach Shula," said Jay Higgenbotham (Charlie's father).

In a recent interview, Higgenbotham claimed he was closing in on a commitment, but his father thought he would have waited longer.

"When he told me he was going to commit, it kind of caught me off guard," said Jay Higgenbotham. "We were waiting to see several schools before he decided. We took nine visits during the spring."

As a junior, Higgenbotham had an incredible season with 169 tackles, and was a starter in the Junior All-Star game.

"Charlie went down to Tuscaloosa on Saturday with his brother (who is currently a student at Alabama). He felt very comfortable down there. He didn't know about the college life, and he seemed to really enjoy it. He and I went down there a few weeks ago for a visit, and he had a good time," said Jay Higgenbotham.

Charlie's father added, "I am real happy for him. I like the coaches very much. The tradition and facilities are great. It's only about 45 minutes away, so it's very close to home."

Higgenbotham does not plan to take any more visits, and he will only attend summer camp at Alabama.

Higgenbotham is projected as a full qualifier with a 3.5 GPA, and a score of 1320 on his SAT. He currently runs a 4.65 forty.
