Matthew Parke has been hired as Director of Basketball Operations on Mark Gottfried's staff at the University of Alabama.

Matt Parke, 30, leaves the University of South Carolina where he was graduate assistant coach to Dave Odom from 2003-05 to assume his new role at Alabama.

"Matt is a very bright young coach who has a tremendous amount of energy," said Tide Coach Mark Gottfried. "He comes to our program highly recommended, and I'm very excited that he has joined our staff. I look for him to be a very important aspect of our program on a day to day basis with a wide range of responsibility."

The Bangor, Maine, native is a 1997 graduate of Colby College and earned his Masters Degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina in 2005. His basketball background includes being head coach at Massachusetts' Derby Academy from 1997-99 and Oak Ridge (North Carolina) Military Academy from 1999-2001. He was assistant coach at Guilford College from 2001-2003 before joining South Carolina's staff as a graduate assistant coach in 2003.

He replaces Darron Boatright, who was recently elevated to associate athletics director under Mal Moore at Alabama.

The director of basketball operations has as his duties, among other things, handling schedules, team travel, on-campus recruiting, and academics, as well as coordinating basketball camps.
