Academic All-American

University of Alabama senior left fielder Gabe Scott has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team as selected by the members of the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Lake Charles, La., native was second team selection with a 3.60 grade point average in Finance. He graduated with honors from The University of Alabama on Saturday, May 7, 2005.

Scott is the seventh Alabama baseball player to be named to the Academic All-America team and fifth under head coach Jim Wells.

He joins Zack Rogers (1972), Jeff Laubenthal (1993), Beau Hearod (2001-2002-2003) and Lance Cormier (2002). Rogers, Laubenthal and Cormier were all first-team selections.

Scott has played in 52 games this season and batted .379 (66-for-174) with 12 home runs and 35 RBI. He leads Alabama with 19 multiple hit games. He had a 27-game hitting streak from Feb. 25-April and reached base in 41 straight games from Feb. 25-May 14.

He was a First Team All-SEC selection by the SEC Coaches. Scott was also honored this season as SEC Player of the Week (April 11) after he went 7-for-12 with three home runs and eight RBI in a series win at No. 9 Ole Miss.
