A Tough Loss

The 2005 season came to an end for the eighth ranked Alabama softball team (63-15) as they dropped a 4-0 decision to the Tennessee Lady Vols (66-14) and were eliminated from the Women's College World Series.

The Crimson Tide finished tied for fifth in the country of the 265 Division I schools that sponsor softball.

Tennessee wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on the strength of two doubles to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Lady Vols added to their lead in the second when Lindsay Schutzler singled in Stacey Jennings pushing the UT lead to 3-0.

Jennifer Wright (20-6) took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits in four innings of work.

The Crimson Tide had its opportunities but was unable to capitalize, stranding eight base runners throughout the game. Jackie Wilkins (SR, Miami, Fla.) led the Alabama offense going 1-3 with a walk.

Game Notes:
--Ashley Courtney tied the Alabama record for hits in the WCWS with her third.
--Staci Ramsey moved to 10th on the UA all-time hit list with her 170th hit.
--Alabama's 63 wins is the second most in program history.
