Robertson Honored

Alabama freshman right-hander David Robertson of Tuscaloosa was named to the 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team on Wednesday. The team was chosen by the staff at Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

David Robertson is the 12th different Alabama rookie to be named to the Freshman All-America team. Alabama Coach Jim Wells has had at least one Freshman All-America selection in nine of his 11 years at The Capstone.

Robertson appeared in 32 games as a freshman and compiled a 7-5 (.583) record with eight saves and a 2.92 ERA. He ha 29 relief appearances and three starts for the Crimson Tide. The freshman worked 74 innings and allowed 48 hits, 28 runs and 24 earned runs, with 36 walks and 105 strikeouts.

He set the UA single-season freshman record with 105 strikeouts this season. The previous record was 98 strikeouts by Wade LeBlanc in 2004 (who was a Freshman All-America last year). Robertson also set the UA single-season record with 12.8 strikeouts per nine innings. The previous record was 12.6 by Alan Dunn in 1981.

In addition, Robertson's 105 strikeouts are the third-most in school history. He also ranked ninth in appearances and ninth in saves.

Robertson was also named to the 2005 Freshman All-SEC team as selected by the league's head coaches. He was also a Freshman All-SEC selection by and a Third-Team All-SEC pick by
