Trial? What Trial?

Alabama football players will report for pre-season practice on August 8, about three and a half weeks from now. Of course, most are already on campus. We visited with a few of them about different topics, including the trial of former Alabama football coaches going on in Tuscaloosa.

No current Alabama football players were signed by the Mike DuBose staff, of which Ronnie Cotrtrell and Ivy Williams were a part. A few current players–fifth-year seniors–could have been recruited by Cottrell and/or Williams, but that class was signed by the Dennis Franchione staff.

And Tide players in Tuscaloosa this summer are concerned about things other than the trial in Tuscaloosa Circuit Court. Players are in summer school and working out and, in some cases, rehabilitating injuries.

Halfback Kenneth Darby said, "What trial? If I need to know anything about a trial, Coach Shula can tell me about it."

Defensive end Wallace Gilberry said, "What trial is that?" Told it was a trial involving some former Alabama football coaches, he said, "I don't know anything about it."

Linebacker DeMeco Ryans said, "I heard about it, but I don't really know anything about it. It doesn't really interest me."

Defensive tackle Jeremy Clark said, "I didn't even know about it. My focus this summer has been on school."

Fullback Tim Castille said, "I haven't really paid any attention to it. I read that a big part of it got thrown out."
