Photo report: First day in pads

It rained for much of the morning, but that didn't dampen the players' spirits Saturday. After working in shorts and helmets for the first two days of spring drills, the entire squad was out in full gear.

Sam Collins (#7, left) and Antonio Carter (#2, right) lead the wide receivers through a footwork drill. Only weeks after undergoing shoulder surgery, Collins is back out on the practice field. Though he's being held out of full contact.

During early pass-catching drills, redshirt freshman quarterback Brodie Croyle makes sure he gets plenty of air under his throw.

With Roberto McBride (#19) looking on, cornerback Corey Ferguson (#48) steadies himself for the pass. As part of their early warmups the cornerbacks take throws from the mechanical QB.

Middle linebacker Marvin Brown (#6) and Rover Brooks Daniels (#18) clown around prior to practice. Brown weighs 250, and is one of the strongest players on the team, while Daniels is only 205. But if you doubt how hard Daniels works in the weight room, compare the size of the two athletes' arms.

After suffering a minor concussion earlier in the week, middle linebacker Freddie Roach did not dress out Saturday. How do you get your bell rung when practicing in shorts? Anyone that has ever seen Roach practice wouldn't ask the question. The redshirt freshman has only one gear: full speed.

After taking the snap from Evan Mathis (#51, an emergency center), Tyler Watts (#14) lets fly. That's sophomore quarterback Matt Miller (#4) to the left.
