More than likely the media relations director or the football operations director or someone else did the research that resulted in the pre-season team, not only at Florida for Meyer and Ole Miss for Orgeron and LSU for Myles and South Carolina for Spurrier, but at every school. The Coaches' Team is about the same as most other pre-season squads that have been announced. This one has a first team, second team and third team, offense, defense and special teams.
Alabama had five defensive players, three offensive players, and one special teams member listed.
The Crimson Tide defense, which led the nation last season in pass defense, had three first-team selections–linebackers DeMeco Ryans (Sr., 6-2, 232, Bessemer) and Freddie Roach (Sr., 6-2, 239, Killen) and safety Roman Harper (Sr., 6-1, 197, Prattville).
Alabama had three offensive players selected to the preseason All-SEC squad, two second-team picks and one, third-team selection.
Quarterback Brodie Croyle (Sr., 6-3, 205, Rainbow City) was the third-team quarterback on the preseason All-SEC team.
Return specialist Tyrone Prothro (Jr., 5-8, 176, Heflin) was a second-team team on the special teams as a kick returner.
This is the second year of the SEC Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC Football Team. It is released in advance of the 2005 SEC Football Media Days, which will be held next week, Wednesday-Friday, July 27-29, at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover.
