At 6-2, 190 pounds, William is a different type athlete than brother Freddie (who plays middle linebacker for Alabama. The youngest of the brothers, William sports a 4.50 best clocking in the forty-yard dash.
Roach is a slashing runner who is very hard to sack due to his elusiveness. Besides Freddie, William is also the brother of Tim Bowens (ALA), and Quentin Bowens ( East Central JC, Alabama signee ). Many consider William to be the best athlete of all his brothers and he proved it in his injured junior season.
William tore his MCL in the first quarter of the first game and had to miss all but the final five games of the year. However, his production in just 5 1/2 games was remarkable. He played quarterback exclusively and registered 817 passing yards with eight Tds and just three Int's. Roach also rushed for 301 yards and five Tds.
Those numbers were coming off a banner sophomore campaign where he was strictly a runningback/receiver. He rushed for 980 yards and 13 Tds, caught 14 passes for 400 yards and 5 Tds, plus he had 390 kickoff return yards with 2 Tds.
He also played defense and posted 62 tackles, 4 interceptions ( 2 for Td ) and 1 fumble recovery ( 1 Td ).
He accumulated 23 Tds as a sophomore and accounted for 13 Tds in just 5 1/2 games as a junior.
The versatile athlete made the All County and Honorable Mention All State teams, following his junior year, despite the injury.
Roach benches 305, squats 385, and power cleans 270. He has a 2.8 GPA and will take the ACT in April.
He camped at Alabama and they are one of his schools along with Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. The Tide and Vols will battle it out here, both have offered, and it is not a done deal either way.
