No Roster Disasters

Alabama's 105-man reporting roster was released on Monday with relatively few major surprises. Since most reporting day "surprises" are about those who are missing, that's as good as Mike Shula and his staff could have hoped.

Alabama 105-Man Reporting Roster

Perhaps among the biggest surprises was that the roster listed exactly 105 names. The reporting roster has been a name or two short in the previous two years because of players who were awaitning academic clearance to begin practice.

Moreno Valley, Calif. linebacker Prince Hall and Smithson Valley (Texas) linebacker Eryk Anders were the last players to report to Tuscaloosa, but both were welcome bonuses.

Anders was added to the list of 2005 signees a week ago while Hall was reportedly awaiting final academic clearance.

"He and Prince Hall are getting in today and they're completing their paperwork and all that kind of stuff," Shula said.

Tight End Trent Davidson was a late scratch from the 105-man roster because of a foot injury that requited surgery making room for walk-on tight end Barrett Earnest.

Five scholarship quarterbacks were listed (Brodie Croyle, John Parker Wilson, Marc Guillon, Jimmy Johns and Jimmy Barnes), which left no room among the 105 for Adam Thrash, a walk-on from Little Rock, Ar.

Similarly, there were nine scholarshipped receivers on the 105-man roster (Tyrone Prothro, Matt Caddell, DJ Hall, Keith Brown, Zeke Knight, Will Oakley, Brandon Brooks, Matt Miller and Marcus McKnight), and 6-6 walk-on Patrick Gordon, who showed some promise, was squeezed out.

Fullback Ryan Morrow, a 6-1, 238-pounder from Salt Lake City Utah, was the most foreign name on the list. Morrow was a Region 3 first-team selection by the Desert News playing linebacker and fullback.

There were also a few number-changes on the roster from last year (some new, some old):

From 17 to 1 - Ramzee Robinson
From 3 to 2 - Simeon Castille
From 43 to 3 - Jeffrey Dukes
From 93 to 56 - Matt Collins
