Four Suspended

Placekicker Jamie Christensen, quarterback Marc Guillon, safety Marcus Carter and halfback Aaron Johns were suspended from Alabama's season opening football game against Middle Tennessee, the University said in a statement distributed to the media in the pressbox about an hour prior to the Tide's 6 p.m. kickoff.

Specific reasons for the suspensions were not given, and the statement said the suspensions were for "a violation of team policy."

The Mobile Register reported Christensen's suspension on Tuesday, Aug. 24 citing unnamed sources, but Tide Head Coach Mike Shula did not confirm the report.

Carter was reportedly cited with a minor alcohol charge in his hometown of Fort Payne over the summer.

All four players were expected to dress and be on the Alabama sideline, but not play.
