The highest rated uncommitted linebacker being recruited by the Tide is A.J. Jones from Middleton High School in Tampa (Fla.) At 6-2, 190 pounds, Jones is not your typical linebacker, but his speed and big hits have caught the eye of college coaches across the country.
His first official visit will take place this weekend when he travels to Tuscaloosa to see the Crimson Tide take on the Florida Gators. (CBS, 2:30 p.m. CDT.)
"I will take my first official visit this weekend to Alabama," said A.J. Jones. "It's going to be a big, big game. It's going to be a big show-down of two of the top teams in the SEC. I will see what both schools have to offer this weekend."
Jones added, "Alabama is looking really strong. I have watched a few of their games on television this year. The defense is hard-nosed. Coach Kines (Defensive Coordinator Joe Kines) has the defense playing very well. We'll see what happens this weekend."
Jones received a surprise guest at his game last week.
"Coach [Dave] Ungerer, from Alabama, came to see me play. He came by my school on Friday as well. He is a real cool guy," Jones said.
As a junior Jones recorded 170 tackles along with 16 sacks. He is having outstanding senior campaign and Scout.com's four-star prospect is ready for a big challenge this week.
"I have done pretty good," Jones said of his senior season. "I have about fifty tackles with two sacks. On offense, I have scored four touchdowns, and I have 263 yards receiving."
"We have our biggest game this week against Hillsborough. They are 5-0, and we are 4-1. It's basically going to be the district championship. We are the two best teams in the in our district. We are fired up for this game. We have to play at Hillsborough, but we can go there and get the win. I will man-up on Jarred Fayson (Scout.com five-star receiver). It's going to be a great match-up. I am looking forward to it," Jones added.
"It's still those five, but I am looking at Tennessee and Ohio State a little bit," Jones said. "I have not set up any more official visits. I got off the phone with the coaches from USC earlier tonight. I know I will take a visit out there, but I don't know when."
Andre Smith, Tim Tebow, Deantwan Whitehead, Tim Hawthorne, Jermarcus Ricks, Earl Alexander, David Ross, London Crawford and Marcus Udell are some of the big names expected in Tuscaloosa for this SEC show-down.
We will bring you the latest update with Jones, Stadler and Johnson when they return from their official visit to Alabama.
