Tide Ranks High

Toryan Smith from Rome, Georgia, is one of the top linebacker prospects in the Southeast. Smith is scheduled to take his second official visit this weekend, and three teams are in the forefront for the three-star prospect's signature.

"I like Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Florida, UCLA and Michigan," said Toryan Smith. "A few of those schools stand out above the rest, but I am considering all six schools. I could see myself playing at any of those places."

"Alabama, Florida and Notre Dame are the three that stand out a little bit more than the others," Smith added.

After an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama-Florida game, Smith had plenty to say about the Tide's defense.

"My visit to Alabama went pretty good," he said. "The stadium was rocking. Florida just couldn't get anything going against Alabama's great defense. I was very impressed."

Prior to kick-off, Smith had the opportunity to sit down with the Tide's defensive coordinator and hear the defensive gameplan for the Florida Gators.

"I really liked their defensive scheme," Smith said. "It's definitely a linebacker defense. I sat down with Coach Joe Kines before the game. He laid down their whole plan against Florida. He told me they would shut them down. I didn't think they would hold Florida without a touchdown."

Alabama's 5-0 start has Smith strongly considering signing with the Crimson Tide, and the coaching staff has impressed him as well.

"Coach Kines is a really good coach," he said. "He told me that he has coached at a few other places and that Alabama was his last stop. It's good to know if I went there, he would be there for the next four or five years. I like Coach Shula as well. He is a a good coach. He is young, and he brings a lot of excitement to the game."

Smith will attend the Alabama-Tennessee game October 22. He has four official visits remaining on his schedule with one coming this weekend.

"I am heading to South Bend this weekend for my official visit to Notre Dame," said Smith. "I am looking forward to my trip. I have high expectations for the visit. USC is going to be a tough game. I think if anyone on USC's schedule has a chance to beat them it will be Notre Dame."

"Oklahoma has been the only official visit I have taken. This is going to be my second official visit. I am going to Michigan (10/17), and to Florida (10/26). I am going out to UCLA either the first or second weekend of November. I won't be making an official visit to Alabama, but I am going to the Tennessee game next weekend," Smith added.

Several key aspects will factor into the three-star linebacker's decision.

. "I am going to go where I feel the most comfortable," he said. "I have seen a lot of places, but I need to go where I fit in the best. I want to go somewhere with good head coaching stability. I want to have a good relationship with my defensive coordinator and position coach. I want to go somewhere that feels like home. There can't beany ifs, ands or buts. There can't be any questions. I have to make the absolute right decision for me."

As for a timeframe for making his decision, Smith said, "I don't know when I will make a decision. I could go somewhere and decide to commit right then. I just don't know yet."

Smith has recorded 74 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions and three forced fumbles during his senior year.

Smith has helped lead his team to a 6-1 record. Rome will travel to Hiram Friday night.
