TROY, AL-The No. 15 ranked (USA Today/NFCA) University of Alabama softball team (44-14) took an early lead and rode its pitching to a 4-2 win over the Troy State Lady Trojans (45-16).

The Tide jumped on top early on with Jackie Wilkins leading the game off with a walk. She stole second and took third on a long fly ball to right field by Suzanne Olcott. Ashley Courtney reached on an infield single scoring Wilkins for a 1-0 Bama lead.

Alabama had an opportunity for more when Lacy Prejean hit her career high ninth double of the season, but Courtney tripped rounding third and was unable to score.

Troy State evened the game in the bottom of the inning on a bloop single by Erin Flater that scored Jenny Boyd from second.

Alabama reclaimed the lead in the top of the second when Capper Reed took an 0-2 pitch and hit her first collegiate home run, a solo shot down the leftfield line staking the Crimson Tide to a 2-1 lead.

Bama added a couple insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning with Emily Currie drawing a leadoff walk and Reed recording her third hit of the day, a single through the left side giving Bama runners on first and second. Leah White advanced the runners on a sacrifice and Jennifer Reach recorded her third hit of the day, a bloop single to right-centerfield scoring Currie. After a strikeout, Olcott reached on an infield single scoring Reed, but Reach was thrown out on the play, however not before Alabama took a 4-1 lead.
