Putting on a Show

Mike Ford of Sarasota, Fla. was Alabama's highest ranked running back recruit in a deep Class of 2005 that included Ali Sharief, Glen Coffee, and Roy Upchurch. He failed to meet academic requirements for Alabama and is spending the semester at Hargrave Military Academy.

Mike Ford does everything with a big smile on his face, and after his performance at Hargrave's Combine on Monday, he had even more reason to smile.

Ford said he was currently weighing 220 pounds, and he turned in a 4.4 on Hargrave's track which translates into a blazing 4.5 on grass.

Ford just got one of his tests back, and he's still a little short to qualify to enroll at Alabama, but he still feels he'll be ready for January.

"I'm still planning on enrolling in January," said Ford. "I'm taking the test again this week."

After spending four months at a military academy, Ford is more than ready to get to work at Alabama.

"The first month was hard, but then I got adjusted to it here. Everywhere you go on the field, there's competition. It's good experience; it helped show me what it's going to be like on the next level."

"I'm going home on the 16th for the holidays. I'm looking forward to getting home, lifting weights, then packing my bags for Alabama."

Ford kept a close eye on the Tide this year.

"They're a tough team. The formation they run is built for me; I love it. KD (Kenneth Darby) is doing great too, and I hope I can take over for him."
