Duke Calhoun Visits Tide

Duke Calhoun, from Raleigh Egypt in Memphis, (Tenn.) took an unofficial visit to Alabama this weekend. Calhoun received a verbal offer from the Tide several weeks ago, but has not received a written offer.

"The visit to Alabama went pretty good," said Duke Calhoun. "I went down there for an unofficial visit on Saturday. I checked out their practice and met with the coaching staff."

"I really liked everything. I liked how they had five different practice fields. Everything was well organized," Calhoun added.

Calhoun was more than happy to meet with the Alabama coaching staff Saturday, and he enjoyed observing the Alabama receivers prepare for the upcoming bowl game against Texas Tech.

"I thought the receivers were good," Calhoun said. "They were all very nice guys. I thought coach Cheese [Charlie Harbison] was a good coach. He seems like he knows how to get the job done."

"Coach [Mike] Shula was telling me how he was glad I came down for the visit. He was happy I came down there. I thought he was a very nice guy."

As a senior Calhoun recorded over 900 yards receiving, and the Tide staff is interested in the wideout from Memphis.

"Coach [Sparky] Woods came to the high school a few weeks ago. He made a verbal offer to me. I have been waiting on the official offer to come in the mail. The coaches didn't say anything about it this weekend."

Calhoun likes several things about the Alabama football program and shared, "Alabama is a pretty nice school. It's a big time program. They are a very big SEC school. They have won more national championships and more bowl games than any team in the country. I really like all of that about them."

Several schools have extended written scholarship offers, and Calhoun is hoping to set up an official visit to Alabama if an official offer is delivered.

"I have offers from Tennessee, Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas, Tennessee State and Arkansas State," said Calhoun. "I took an official visit to Memphis last weekend. I am taking official visits to Ole Miss (1-14), Tennessee (1-21) and Arkansas (1-27)."

"I really hope to set up an official visit to Alabama," Calhoun continued. "Coach Woods said he would get in contact with me sometime this week. If Alabama wants me to come for an official, then I will probably take it in January (1-7)."

The official visit to Memphis last weekend has given the Tigers the edge for Calhoun's signature.

"The official visit went pretty good," Calhoun said of the Tigers. "I love the way everything feels up there. It feels like home. I really like the coaching staff and all the players. They seem like they have a lot of fun during practice."

"My host was Maurice Jones. I thought he was pretty cool. We had a good time together."
