Scouting Alabama QBs: Jake Tompkins

Though a recent good football camping experience at Clemson has him looking out of state, Russellville's Jake Tompkins remains one of the top quarterback prospects in the state of Alabama.

At 6-2, 206 pounds, Tompkins is one of the top rated quarterbacks in Alabama and indeed in the South.

Tompkins has a bulky frame that allows him to withstand oncoming rushers and stand strong in the pocket. He is a strong-armed passer who likes to stay in the pocket, but is more than capable of tucking the ball and picking up major yardage.

Having been clocked at 4.55 in the 40-yard dash, Tompkins has very good speed and he tends to outrun many linebackers.

The Russellville native completed 204 of 307 attempts ( 66.4 % ) for 2757 yards, 29 Tds ( passing and rushing ) and nine Interceptions.

Tompkins' high school coach considers him a field general because he takes control and is the leader in the huddle.

He was selected All Region and All State as a junior.

Tompkins has attended camp at Kentucky and the Lamonde Russell camp. But just recently he camped at Clemson, enjoying a good day and gaining a strong impression of the Tigers in the process.

He bench presses 310 pounds (five reps ), squats 315 ( five reps ), and power cleans 250 ( five reps ). Tompkins carries more than a 3.0 GPA and will take the ACT in April.

Following his very good visit to Clemson, Tompkins now lists the Tigers as his strong favorite. But he is also looking strong at Tennessee, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, UAB, Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia.
