"Javier [Arenas] has been on Alabama's recruiting board for a long time," said Robinson head coach Mike Depue. "They sent a couple of coaches down during the season, but Javier ended up committing to Florida Atlantic."
"Alabama began showing a lot of interest in him again last week. One of the Alabama coaches showed up yesterday and offered him a full scholarship."
Mike Depue has been coaching in the Sunshine State for several years and said, "Alabama better get ready for a special player. He is a guy who can make things happen. He is by far the best returner I have seen in 28 years of coaching high school football. I don't know if he will be able to replace the guy [Tyrone Prothro] who broke his leg in the Florida game, but he is somebody who can make an impact."
"He is only about 5-9, but he is a solid 175 pounds. He has unbelievable change of speed and direction. He can make a dead stop and then go full speed. He is amazing."
Coach Depue advised his player to visit Alabama this weekend and to make the right decision for himself.
"If he ends up at Alabama, they are getting a quality player," said Depue. "Javier has told me that he wants to go to Alabama. I told him he has to do a service to himself, and visit Alabama first. He needs to see how much academic support he will have. We as teachers and coaches want to make sure he will be successful not only on the football field, but in the classroom as well."
"I am pretty sure he will end up at Alabama. I think there are going to be a lot of smiles on all the Alabama fans' faces once Javier comes to town."
