Despite losing seven seniors off last year's World Series squad, The University of Alabama softball team was selected eighth in the country in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Pre-Season Top 25.

Alabama finished last season ranked seventh in the country after making its third appearance in the Women's College World Series and second in the last three years.

The Crimson Tide of Coach Patrick Murphy was one of two teams from the Southeastern Conference to dot the Top 10 with the Tennessee Lady Vols checking in at third.

The SEC is represented by five schools–Alabama and Tennessee and Georgia (11th), Auburn (20th) and Florida (23rd). The LSU Tigers are the only other conference school receiving votes.

The Michigan Wolverines were tabbed the number one team in the country after claiming their first national championship last season.

The Tide will have its first scrimmage of the season at 1:30 p.m. CST Sunday. It will be open to the public.

Alabama will kickoff the 2006 schedule on Friday, February 10 when the team hosts the ninth annual Bama Bash! Season tickets are still available at The University of Alabama ticket office or they can be purchased by calling 205.348.BAMA (2262).
