UA Football Player Arrested

Crimson Tide football player Travis Sikes was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday morning, according to the Tuscaloosa County arrest database and a source familiar with the incident.

The database showed that Sikes was arrested at 8:40 Saturday morning with a $300 bond amount set. A source familiar with the situation said Sikes wrecked his Infiniti car while heading toward Tuscaloosa on I-59/20 near Vance, where a state trooper later discovered the vehicle. Sikes had left the vehicle and was arrested after returning to the vehicle. He registered a .11 blood alcohol level, the source indicated.

The legal limit for adults in Alabama is .08 blood alcohol level.

The source said Sikes was not injured in the accident.

Sikes was a grayshirt signee in the class of 2005. He enrolled at Alabama part time for the fall 2005 semester and joined the squad at the end of the fall semester. Sikes played receiver and defensive back at Christ Presbyterian in Nashville, graduating in 2004.

University of Alabama athletics department spokesman Larry White had no immediate comment. Alabama Head Coach Mike Shula was not immediately available for comment.
